When wisdom is needed… God’s wisdom… Ask for it, and He’ll give it!! That’s a promise!!

Asking for Wisdom

Trials, difficulties, and the challenges we face can leave us confused, perplexed and scrambling for reliable guidance and answers! But if you’re trusting the Lord, the Bible teaches that God has everything under control! He’s not confused! He’s not caught up short! His purposes for you in it all are good! As a result, when things like that come our way, we can rejoice in the midst of it all! (Check out James 1:3-4)

In fact, this morning my Bible reading in the passage that follows verses 3-4… James1:5-8…. went one step further! … Here’s “Bartel’s paraphrase” of it…

“Going through a trial… lots of ‘em? Are you facing incredible difficulties that have left you confused and uncertain, not knowing what to do or how to respond? Do you just need some “good ol’ God-wisdom?” Ask the Lord! He’ll give it to you! He’ll welcome your request! He won’t scold you or look down on you for asking, either!

“He doesn’t say how He’ll provide the wisdom you need: It could be a reminder about Scriptural principles that apply, the counsel of a godly friend, the way circumstances work out under His control, a “prophetic word” prompted by the Holy Spirit, even a vision or dream or some other way… His possibilities are unlimited! But God’s word just says He will provide it!

“But be sure you ask in faith – ask believing! If you don’t you’ll be like a restless sea (or a West Texas wind)! Every decision you make will be uncertain as you waver and fluctuate between this decision and then that one! You’ve got to trust in the Lord to lead you and provide the wisdom you need! Listen, you can depend on Him to do it! “

(A personal paraphrase of James 1:5-8)

Hope that helps someone facing the need for “God-given wisdom” today! Hint… I’ve got a few issues I’m facing where I need it!

Blessing you all this morning with a blessing from the Bible… Can’t beat that!!!

Blessings.jpgAs many of you are aware, I try to post “Birthday blessings from Scripture” to all my Facebook friends on their birthday… because of travel and other interruptions I sometimes miss a birthday. As I do my Bible reading during “coffee with the Lord” every day I try to collect appropriate greetings that I use in this way.
All that to say, I identified a new one today for my collection. I’ll be using it during the coming year, so watch for it on your birthday! Here it is… I’m sending it to all of you today as a “general blessing!” May the Lord fulfill it in your life! Enjoy!!!
“Now may the God of peace— Who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood — may He equip you with ALL YOU NEED for doing his will! May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, EVERY GOOD THING that is pleasing to Him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen!!!” (From Hebrews 13:20-21 The New Living Translation)
Oh, do it Lord – fulfill it in every detail for all my friends who are a part of “Coffee with the Lord!”

When the living Christ is involved “miracle moments” are always a possibility!

Beggars at a temple

This morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” I read a passage that brought some graphic scenes to mind – Acts 3:1-11.  Often in Asia or the Middle East beggars line the entrance to temples.  I’ve seen them often in these temples… The pictures I’ve posted are characteristic of those contexts…

Acts 3:1-11 is the account with such a scene as its background.  Peter and John were entering the temple counts at about 3 p.m., the “hour of prayer.”  A man lame from birth had been carried for years to the location where beggars often gathered asking for charity.  As Peter and John entered the man asked for alms.  Peter and John noticed him and he expected to receive some money from them.  Peter told the man, “I don’t have any money to give you, but I’ll give you what I have!  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”  Peter then reached out, took the man by the hand, and somehow the man believed what Peter said and he tried to do what he had never been able to do before.  In that moment he experienced what I would call “a miracle moment!”  Strength came to his feet and ankles!  He stood up, began to walk, and then the miracle happened to him!  He “entered the temple, walking and leaping and praising God!

Now listen, I’m sure there were several – perhaps many – with needs in the temple courts begging.  I’m confident the lame man fully expected that day of begging to be no different than any other.  He was probably resigned to “living with his condition.”  But that day was “God’s day” for that man – He would experience a “miracle moment” because of the risen Christ.

Perhaps you’ve resigned yourself to an unpleasant, difficult, or even a chronic situation.  It has become the “status quo” for your life!  Jesus is alive!  He still performs miracles!  Nothing is too hard for Him!  When He’s involved… wherever there is faith in Him (even a glimmer of faith) there is the possibility of “miracle moments!”  God might have one for you today!  There may be a “Peter” or “John” nearby that God will use to challenge you to believe for something new – something better – even for what seems impossible to you right now…. and you’ll have your own “miracle moment!”

It’s possible you know!  Here’s how Peter explained it, “And His name – by faith in His name – has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given this man this perfect health in the presence of you all!” (Acts 3:16)  Hey listen… Through faith in Christ, God may have a “miracle moment” for you today!
