Live, work, or attend school in a “hell hole?” There’s a Psalm about that…

I don’t know where you work… It may be a “hell-hole of iniquity.” I don’t know who your neighbor is… your problems with them may not simply be their dog! The school where you teach or attend may be a “secularist stronghold” filled with practicing atheists. Your family members may be pagan persecutors. And the community where you live… Well I could go on.

The Psalmist, David, would have identified with you! He even wrote a Psalm about it… Read his words over and think about them…

Save us, O LORD, for the godly are gone; the faithful have vanished from among the children of man! Everyone utters lies to his neighbor! With flattering lips and a double heart they speak… ‘Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,’ says the LORD! I will place them in the safety for which they long!’ The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.” (From Psalm 12 ESV)

Ever feel that way? Ever cry out to the Lord with words like that? You’re not alone! The Psalm declares, however, that God is aware of the situation! He hears everything they say! He proclaims that He will arise! He will protect and preserve! Treasuring up his word in your heart is like an antidote to the cultural poison around you! He will guard His own from the pollution of this generation! And I believe He will keep his word!
