Part of my Bible reading right now during “Coffee with the Lord” each morning includes a group of Psalms that are labeled “Songs of Ascents” (Psalms 120 – 134) These Psalms were traditionally “sung” by pilgrims as they traveled up to the temple mount in Jerusalem for sacrifice and worship. It helps to keep in mind the pilgrim’s journey and its purpose as you read and reflect upon them. Just let me say, they include some wonderful stuff! (Pic – Jerusalem from a distance)
Today’s “Song of Ascents,” Psalm 125, was no exception! It provides wonderful assurances to those who “trust in the Lord” on their spiritual journey. Three assurances are especially identified…
THEY ENDURE: “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever!”
THEY ARE PROTECTED: “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people, from this time forth and forevermore! The scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do wrong.”
AND THEY ARE BLESSED! “Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts.”
(From Psalm 125 ESV)
What wonderful assurances to those who put their trust in the Lord and those who do what is right! Makes me want to live that way more than ever! How about you?
