“Hey, enough already!”

enough already

There is a figure of speech I’ve heard on several occasions, especially in the south (I don’t know if it’s unique to the south, but that’s where I’ve heard it most often)… The figure of speech? “Enough already!” Checked on Google and here’s what came up in the Urban Dictionary: “Enough already: A sarcastic way of saying, please stop now!”

That figure of speech came to mind as I read the following passage in the Bible during “coffee with the Lord”…

“You know the time! The hour has come for you to wake from sleep! Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the ‘flesh’ [your natural, pre-Christian past – what it loved to do], to gratify its desires.” (Romans 13:11-14 ESV)

“Enough already!” If we know Jesus as our Savior and are following Him, we need to realize His promised return is nearer now than it’s ever been! As dark as things are all around us in our culture, the dawning of the “new day is at hand!” Prophetic signs point to the fact that the Lord’s return is immanent. We can’t afford to slip back into an old, sinful, pre-Christian, lifestyle – the way we used to live! We need to say a forever “goodbye – be gone!” to that old way of life. We need to consider that old way of living “dead” with Jesus on the cross, buried with Him in the tomb, and ourselves ALIVE! – RESURRECTED with Him to live a new life! (Read Romans 6:1-14). Our “baptism into Him” needs to be REAL and ACTUAL, not simply symbolic, in our lives! Hey, “enough already!” – Let’s “put on the Lord Jesus Christ (like we put on new dry clothes after we were baptized”), leave the old life behind, and “make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires!” … “Enough already!!”
