If God can save John Newton or Apostle Paul He can save anyone!

John Newton

I’ve been reading a wonderful book, John Newton: From Disgrace to Amazing Grace, by Jonathan Aitken… A worthy read! I had already read Amazing Grace, by Eric Metaxas (also a worthy read). If I’ve taken anything away from both books (especially the one that deals especially with John Newton) it is that God can forgive and completely transform the life of anyone by His power and grace… ANYONE! If the Lord could save and transform John Newton, he can save anyone.

Reminded of something I read this morning in the Bible written by Apostle Paul – This is what he said:

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, concerning his son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord… to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of His name among all the nations.” (From Romans 1:1-5 ESV)

This is the same guy who testified of his former life, “I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth. And I did so in Jerusalem I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them. And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme, and in raging fury against them I persecuted them even to foreign cities.” (from Acts 26:9-11)

Is it any wonder then that later Paul confessed: “I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God! But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain! (1 Corinthians 15:9–10 ESV)

I don’t know whose name may be running through your mind right now who is far, far from God… It may be an old friend, it may be someone you work with, it may be a family member, or it may even be a spouse… God’s grace can reach them, God’s grace can confront them, God by His grace can transform their lives! Keep praying! Keep believing! Keep trusting God!
