Many today embrace a kind of polytheism, the worship of many gods, in the name of tolerance and pluralism. They claim you can believe and embrace whatever you want to believe. They say, “I’ll believe what works for me. You believe what works for you! All gods – all faiths – are basically equal.”
Just let me say, that is NOT the biblical perspective! Christians understand that they worship “the One True God!” They are not arrogant about it, but on the other hand they are not apologetic about it… They are confident about it. In fact, their hearts burn with passionate love for all peoples of the world to come to know the “One True God” in a personal way – a God of love.
Spiritual maturity then, is not seeing things as they are presently, but seeing them as they one day will be. – seeing things from an eternal perspective!
This morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” I read a passage that affirms the eternal perspective… Revelation 15:2-4
Revelation 15:2–4 (ESV)
“And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. And they sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, ‘Great and amazing are your deeds, O LORD GOD THE ALMIGHTY! Just and true are your ways, O KING OF THE NATIONS! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. ALL NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP YOU, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
That’s the eternal perspective… He is “King of the Nations!” – One day that will be revealed completely… and fulfilled! One day “all nations will come and worship Him!” He is “the One True God” and His hearts beats passionate, redemptive love for all peoples of the world! The Heavenly Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ, not as a provincial or territorial god (little “g”) – but as a universal, cosmic, timeless God (big “G”) – the One True God. “God SO LOVED the WORLD, that He sent his Only Begotten Son, that WHOEVER Believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life!” (John 3:16) “King of the Nations – All nations coming and worshipping Him” – that’s the eternal perspective! That’s the perspective I embrace and am working toward!
