The Memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. brought these things to mind…

martin luther king jr.

On this Martin Luther King Day weekend… three takeaways for me…

1) As a Christian, the God I serve is “no respecter of persons!” (He’s color blind – He’s uses both men and women in his work – He doesn’t care “which side of the track” you were raised on or live – He’s not impressed by how much you make, what kind of house you live in, or what you drive – and He’s not impressed be your position or the abbreviated titles after your name… He loves “the world” and gave His son to redeem all humankind!

2) One of my Core Values: Core Value #2… I Value People: Since God loves everyone and His heart throbs redemptively for all people of the world, regardless of their race, gender, culture, or situation in life, so should I!

3) I’ve got to have something worth living for and something I’m willing, if need be, to die for! (And I do… the “cause of Christ!”)

Thank you, Martin Luther King – The reminder of your life (and death) brought these things to mind!

The story of two old people laughing about the promise of God…

two old people laughing

Are you facing challenges that seem impossible? You have the promises of God, and He has spoken His assurance to your heart… But the feelings of impossibility still haunt you!

It happened to Abraham and Sarah in the Bible… What God promised seemed so impossible to them that they laughed! After all Abraham was 99 at the time of the promise and Sarah was 90 (past child bearing age). But it was in the plan, purpose and the promise of God! God reminded them, “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year and Sarah shall have a son!” (Genesis 18:14)

And today, in my Bible reading during “coffee with the Lord” this is what I read…

“The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised! Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age AT THE TIME OF WHICH GOD HAD SPOKEN TO HIM. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. Abrahams was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, ‘Who would have said to Abrahams that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age!” (From Genesis 21:1-7)

Hey listen, when it is in the plan and purpose of God – when God’s promise is clear – NOTHING can hinder him from fulfilling it! “Is ANYTHING too hard for the Lord?” Keep trusting the Lord! Be obedient to His guidance! God will fulfill his promise, his purposes, and plan! If you’ve been laughing the laugh of incredibility and impossibility… you may be about to be surprised by joy!

God’s way… expressed (and exhibited in Christ) – NOT our way!

payback - getting evenDo not be a person who retaliates when wronged! Instead show love, kindness and generosity to those who wrong you because of your commitment to Christ! Be like God, who gave His Son on our behalf – NOT like sinful humanity!

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ BUT I SAY TO YOU, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.” (The words of Jesus in Matthew 5:36-42)

The example of Jesus… “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children! And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2)

Help me Father, to be more like you and follow the example of your Son, Jesus! I need your help!!! Amen!
