A new heaven and new earth… a new Jerusalem… An awesome future ahead for God’s people!

New Heaven and New Earth
This morning I read one of the most beautiful passages in all of Scripture… Isaiah 65:17-25… God’s prophetic message through Isaiah of the wonderful future ahead for God’s people! A new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells! A new Jerusalem! Millennial blessing and God’s eternal kingdom all blended into one incredible scene!

So here’s what I did… I Googled the phrase “new heaven and new earth” into “images” and looked at the pictures there… all mental images – the imagination of someone about what “heaven” will be like – imagination run wild! And all of them taken together don’t begin to touch the splendor, the beauty, the grandeur of what lies ahead for the people of God! (I’ve included one sample to tease your imagination.)

Here’s Isaiah’s prophetic vision of it all… (Enjoy! Savor it! Relish the thought!)

“For behold, I [God] create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress. No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the LORD, and their descendants with them. Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the LORD!” (From Isaiah 65:17–25 ESV)

And if that isn’t enough to blow your mind, just check out Revelation 21-22 in your Bible! Wow! What a wonderful future for the people of God! Great way to prepare for Easter next week wouldn’t you say?!

Saluting all the “Spiritually gifted” and “anointed” servants of the Lord today who do not preach, teach or oversee ministry in the Church

Working together

A shout out today to all those whose calling and Spiritual gifting is NOT to preach, or teach, or give oversight to a church or ministry! They instead are divinely gifted to use to use their abilities for the glory of God in other ways to bless others and help facilitate and extend the Kingdom of God in our world! Often ignored, forgotten, and not mentioned – they labor with dedication and devotion – but God notices! He is aware of every effort, every sacrifice, every attention to detail given, every hour, and every moment of their service! So today I salute (and hopefully we all salute) those who serve in the wide variety of ways that help others and make the Kingdom of God and its ministries a success on earth!

What prompted this reflection today you ask? Well it is the incredible record of service and the use of Spiritual gifts by a man called Bezalel, son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and his protégé, Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan, found in the Old Testament… Individuals with “Spiritual gifts” and “anointing” as valid and authentic as any preacher, teacher, or Spiritual overseer…

Here’s what the Bible says…

“Then Moses said to the people of Israel, ‘See, THE LORD HAS CALLED BY NAME Bezallel… and has FILLED HIM WITH THE SPIRIT OF GOD, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge and with all craftsmanship…and HAS INSPIRED HIM to teach, both him and Oholiab. He has FILLED THEM WITH SKILL to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroider in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen or by a weaver – by any wort of workman or skilled designer.’” (From Exodus 35:30-35)

And then in Exodus 36 and 38 you read these words over and over again in the construction of the Tabernacle… “Bezalel made… and he made.. and he made… he made… and he also made… He made… and he also made… over and over and over! Finishing with these words, “Bezalel, the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the Lord commanded Moses; and with him was Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan” (From Exodus 36 – 38)

So today we salute the “Spiritually gifted” and “anointed” servants of the Lord who serve God and His Kingdom in the marketplace… Do all that they do “for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31) and sharing a witness as they are able with anyone who will listen as God gives them opportunity! We also celebrate their efforts within the Church to make it’s ministries a success for the glory of God! These are incredible people – gifted by the Holy Spirit – often using their gifts “free of charge” as volunteers to extend God’s Kingdom and serve others in a host of ways with excellence! These are wonderful, dedicated people who understand, “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ then according to the grace given to us, let us use them…!” (Romans 12:4-8) What would the Kingdom of God be without people like this!

Leave the light on Daddy! Please leave the light on!

Bedtime prayers

The bedtime story had been read, the prayers had been prayed, and her parents turned to leave the room… “Mommy… Daddy… Please leave the light on in the hallway, OK?!” she pleaded with them. And as her parents turned down the hallway to their room, if the truth were known, there is a sense in which their fears about tomorrow… about the future… about the things they were facing were really no different than their child’s…

I thought of that this morning as I read these words from Psalm 27 this morning…

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

The Psalm goes on to describe the things that can bring fear and dread to the human heart, but reaffirms… “He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will lift me high upon a rock! And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, ‘Seek my face!’ My heart says to You, ‘Your face, Lord, do I seek!’ … I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord! Be strong, and let your heart take courage! Wait for the Lord!” (From Psalm 27)

Leave the light on Daddy! Please leave the light on!
