“The God who sees… Who looks after me!”

She had all she could take! She had faithfully served others. She had done everything they asked her to do! Sure she had made a mistake or two … but who hadn’t?
The pressure from Sarai, her boss, became unbearable – her treatment harsh. She’d had enough – she was running away!… But the Lord found her, sent His messenger to her, gave her direction and communicated and confirmed God’s promises to her… (Read Genesis 16)
Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me! …Truly, I have seen Him who looks after me!”  (Hebrew “El Ro-i) (From Genesis 16.13-14)
Trust this encourages someone today!!

Getting “Right with God” – Some of the Benefits…

Today’s “coffee with the Lord” reflection is a sequel to yesterday’s. Yesterday was based upon Romans 4:18-25 and dealt with what the Bible refers to as “justification.” In other words, how we “get right with God” – How we who are guilty sinners can become righteous… That happens through faith in what Christ has done on our behalf – through His death, burial and resurrection we can be considered “right with God” – righteous in God’s sight!

This morning’s passage in my Bible reading was the sequel – Romans 5:1-5 (You really need to give it a read!). This is what I wrote in the margin of my Bible after “coffee with the Lord” this morning… “Wow! The awesome benefits of being made right with God by faith! Getting right with God is just the beginning! So many other wonderful benefits of “justification” accrue to us as a result of that experience!”

Here’s my personal list based upon Romans 5:1-5…

1. Peace with God (not just peace FROM God – I am at peace WITH God – I’m right with God)!

2. I have God’s “grace” to “stand in” – God’s grace as the foundation for my life!

3. I rejoice in the hope that one day I’ll share in the glory of God (heaven, being in His presence forever)!

4. I can even rejoice when I’m suffering, knowing that my suffering doesn’t destroy me – it develops me!

5. And over it all, God’s love is poured in my heart every day through the Holy Spirit God gives me!

Oh, and I can’t help but add one more that’s described in the verses that follow (verses 6-11) … We rejoice because we have been saved from God’s wrath (His righteous response to sin that is not dealt with) and reconciled to God!

Wow! Praise the Lord! Getting “right with God” through faith in Christ has some awesome benefits! Really glad I got “right with God!”

Are you “right with God?”

getting-right-with-godHow do you get “right with God?” What does it take to gain the righteousness that God requires… that’s right – not the righteousness that impresses your neighbor, your parents, the people you go to church with, or even your pastor or other religious leader. How do you gain the righteousness that is acceptable to God?

People try to get it in different ways… Some try good works – they think God will be impressed by that and say they’re ok with Him. Others try very hard to keep a list of religious rules … they really are working on a score of 98 or above on the “righteousness test” (and hoping God will accept a score of 75 on that exam). Some depend on church attendance or church membership. Others believe participation in significant religious rituals will win them God’s acceptance. Others could care less… they believe “a loving God” would never withhold His approval – what they really think is that almost EVERYONE ends up being accepted by God! None of those things will work!

Getting right with God – being acceptable to Him and being righteous – is really not that difficult! Yet there is only one way to gain it according to the Bible… Are you ready for this? It’s “by faith!” I read about it in my Bible reading this morning. Here it is…

Abraham was given a promise by God – what seemed to be an impossible promise. God promised something incredible to Abraham when he and his wife Sarah were far past the age of being able to have a child! And the Bible says, “In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told… He did not weaken in faith when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised. THAT IS WHY HIS FAITH WAS ‘COUNTED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.’ BUT THE WORDS ‘IT WAS COUNTED TO HIM’ WERE NOT WRITTEN FOR HIS SAKE ALONE, BUT FOR OURS ALSO! IT WILL BE COUNTED TO US WHO BELIEVE IN HIM WHO RAISED FROM THE DEAD JESUS OUR LORD, WHO WAS DELIVERED UP FOR OUR TRESPASSES [OUR SIN] AND RAISED FOR OUR JUSTIFICATION [i.e. to make us ‘right with God’]! (From Romans 5:18-25)

That’s how you get “right with God!” That’s the ONLY way God will consider you a “righteous person!” Trusting God to forgive your sin because of what Jesus accomplished when He died for your sin on the cross and rose again to give you eternal life and a transformed life now! You’ve got put your trust in Jesus! You’ve got to believe that God will do what He said He would do because of what Christ did on our behalf! I’m so glad I did that! Hope you have as well!
