I’m convinced I read a passage this morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” that gives the secret to living a righteous, God-honoring, fruitful life in a “sin-soaked world” – the kind of world we live in right now… The passage? 2 Peter 1:3-11
Here’s what it says… my advice? Read it, reflect on it, realize it, and reproduce it in practice!
“God’s divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
“For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for IF YOU PRACTICE THESE QUALITIES YOU WILL NEVER FALL AND THERE WILL BE RICHLY PROVIDED FOR YOU AN ENTRANCE INTO THE ETERNAL KINGDOM OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!” (From 2 Peter 1:3-11 ESV)
Think about it… EVERYTHING NEEDED! Not hunches, not simply potential options, PROMISES… God’s promises and provision through Christ! Don’t know about you… I watched the news – I walked the streets… I’ve talked to those who have faced challenges as “Christ-followers” at work and school, in business and the public service… This is “good news!” I needed to read it today – and if you desire to live a godly life and please the Lord in the world you live in, you needed to be reminded of it as well (in fact, go on and read verses 12-13 – this is not new stuff – it’s a reminder)!
