NOTHING Can Separate Me From God’s Love!

God's Steadfast LoveHere is Apostle Paul’s inspired assertion: “NOTHING can separate us from God’s love > from Christ’s love” (Romans 8:35-39).

I mean what do we not understand about “NOTHING”!

Here’s what I read again this morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord”…

“Can ANYTHING ever separate us FROM CHRIST’S LOVE? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? … No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that NOTHING can ever separate us FROM GOD’S LOVE! Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, NOTHING IN ALL CREATION will ever be able to separate us FROM THE LOVE OF GOD THAT IS REVEALED IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.” (From Romans 8:35–39 NLT)

I have to admit I’m still processing the implications of this – I believe it and affirm it – but I admit I’m still processing it…

After all, Job in the Bible went through a lot… I mean a LOT! And God loved Job – He was never separated from God’s love. Read Hebrews 11:35-37: “Some were tortured, jeered at, their backs cup open with whips, chained in prison, were stoned, sawed in half, killed with the sword…some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute, oppressed, and mistreated…wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.” But according to this passage, “Never separated from God’s love in Christ Jesus!”

Wow! We’re talking about “Hesed” here – the Hebrew term for God’s “steadfast love – His covenant keeping love!” Not just some sweet, sentimental, gushy, “sloppy ‘agape’” – A father’s love! Divine love! A Savior’s love! But deep, passionate love! A love more interested in the development of Godly character in my life than my comfort.

Like I say… I’m still processing the implications of this for my life – (it’s a bit scary) but I’m relishing the truth of it! NOTHING…NOTHING! …can separate me from THE LOVE OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS MY LORD!
