Generosity… Look it up in the dictionary and read the definition and description that is found there. I’ll bet it’s not the same kind of generosity found in 2 Corinthians 8:1-7!
Here’s the description of generosity that passage gives us…
“We want you to know about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia. In a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints — and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. Accordingly… as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also” (From 2 Corinthians 8:1–7 ESV)
So after I read that remarkable passage during my time of “coffee with the Lord” this morning I wrote down this personal definition and description in my journal… “Generosity – An act of the lavish grace of God poured out selflessly though His people even in the face of their personal poverty. He provides and we share what He gives us with others who are in need, freely.”
Oh, let me tell you, I want that quality of His grace to pour out through me to others!!!
