The “end of all things” is near… Getting ready for the Lord’s return

Getting ready for guests

The holiday season is here – that period that encompasses Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year.  Guests and family members drop by for a visit (and we want them to) but sometimes the timing isn’t always convenient for us and we’re left scrambling to get things ready for their visit (“ready or not…”)  Ever had the experience?

Jesus is coming back!  We don’t know precisely when!  The end of all things is at hand – His return is imminent!  He sent His word promising to return and warning us to be ready:  “You must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect!” (Matthew 24:44; 25:1-13; Luke 12:35-40)

Here’s the issue… What can we do to be ready?  This morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” I read a passage addressed to some Christians going through difficult times, suggesting some things they could do to be ready for the “end” and the return of their Lord…

Here’s what Apostle Peter suggested…

“The end of all things is at hand; therefore…

*“Be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

*“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

*“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.

*“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:

*“Whoever speaks, let them do it as one who speaks oracles of God

*“Whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies”

And the goal of it all? … “That in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever! Amen!”  (From 1 Peter 4:7–11 ESV)

Hey, the end of all things is near!  Jesus is coming back – and soon!  I want to be ready!  Lord help me, as a devoted follower of You, to build these things into my life!
