Have you ever heard someone say something like this… “They are the personification of…”
Do you know anyone that you would identify with any of these qualities? “They are the personification of … Integrity? Kindness? Grace? Love? Generosity?” Can you think of any others?
How about “wisdom” … Do you know anyone about whom you would say, “They are the complete personification of wisdom!” I gotta tell you when I think of that quality the examples are few and far between – I mean, after all, “the complete personification of wisdom!”
In my devotions (“coffee with the Lord”) the last three days I’ve been reading Proverbs 8 in which “wisdom” is personified. Here are a few phrases from that wonderful chapter…
“Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? … I wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion…”
Hey, take it from me, this is an incredible chapter in the Bible! It deserves to be read slowly, thoughtfully, expressively, and reflectively! What it has to say about “wisdom personified” is pretty awesome!
The question that comes to mind is, Who is the writer of Proverbs 8 talking about anyway? I believe there is only one person who satisfies and fulfills the language of Proverbs 8! And as wise as he was, it’s not Solomon in the Bible (sometimes referred to the “wisest man on earth”)! The only person that I can think of that satisfies the language of that chapter is Jesus!
In fact, Apostle Paul, in the New Testament seems to agree with me! In Holy Spirit inspired words here are his declarations…
“To those who are called Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God … Christ has become to us wisdom from God!” (1 Corinthians 1:24 & 30)
“God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge!” (Colossians 2:3)
So I’ve got to tell you, as I read Proverbs 8, I see Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! I think you will as well! Why not give that wonderful chapter a read… and as you do, worship! Jesus is the personification of wisdom!
