The Good Life! (and how to get it) I think Solomon had it right!

The Good Life

“The good life!”

If you asked people to describe it what would they say?  Lots of money (and discretionary money for travel and toys)… secure investments… influence and fame… a beautiful home + a nice vacation home… expensive car(s)… a boat… devoted, successful children (and grandchildren)… ETC!!!

I tried to “Google” a picture that captured it all but couldn’t find one that, in my opinion, captured all the possibilities… so use your imagination!

But I came across a description of “the good life” this morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” in the Bible that deserves our consideration.  It comes from Solomon, “the wisest man on earth” and the recipient of incredible power, prestige, and possessions – it’s found in Proverbs in the Bible:

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding!  The gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.  She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her!  Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.  She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed!”  (From Proverbs 3:13–18 ESV)

And how to get it… the “good life” as Solomon describes it?  “The fear [reverence] of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge/wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7)

You know what?  I’ll take Solomon’s word for it – he should know; God promised it to him, he obtained it, then tried everything else and eventually came back to it (Ecclesiastes in the Bible).  I want wisdom and understanding – “the good life” … the God-given kind!
