Of All the Religious Choices Out There… I Choose the Lord!

Matamoros - Ribs and fajitasI really enjoy good, Texas-style, barbecued ribs! …Hand-rubbed with savory spices, so tender they fall off the bone, slathered with delicious, tangy-sweet BBQ sauce! My birthday had been just around the corner, so I asked a dear friend who knew all the great eating places in the area, “Where can I get great ribs like that?” He told me about several places, then he paused and said, “there’s another place – and it’s going to surprise you – they are not usually thought of as a ‘rib place” because it’s a Mexican restaurant, but they have a combo meal – they serve it with incredible ribs and fajitas!”
So I got the address and went to the restaurant… Big menu, and lots of choices, but I had an agenda! I scanned the menu, and looked for the meal he recommended… I found it! I ordered it and shared it with my wife, Sharon! What a delight! How delicious!
That experience came to mind during my Bible reading this morning during my time of “Coffee with the Lord!” Of all the choices out there – all the religious options that exist – I choose the Lord! I’m following Jesus! Here’s how David in Psalm 16 put it (and believe me, I trust his recommendation!)…
“I say to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you!’ … The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; He holds my lot! The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken! Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure…. You make known to me the path of life! In Your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore!” (From Psalm 16)
Yes David, you were right! Choosing to follow the Lord was a good choice – The right choice! “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the person who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:8)
