I’m enjoying reading James D. G. Dunn’s THEOLOGY OF PAUL THE APOSTLE – a delightful, thought provoking, and personally enriching read! Today my reading addressed, in part, Paul’s desire and experience of “knowing God.” I found this statement by Dunn especially insightful…
“Paul’s theology of God was no abstract speculation but was sustained and informed by his own experience… I was the integration of intellectual rigor, missionary and pastoral service, and personal experience, which is what makes his speech about God so compelling!” (pg. 50)
Hear Apostle Paul’s passion expressed in his own words! “Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ! Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of know Christ Jesus my Lord! … Oh, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead! Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own because Christ Jesus has made me His own!” (From Philippians 3:7-12 ESV)
My heart echoes Paul’s… “Oh, that I may know Him!”
