You’ve all seen the pictures I think… We call them “makeovers” … A very average looking person (some might even use the derisive term, “ugly”), spends a day with the hairdresser, the cosmetologist, and all the other trained professionals that know what to do to maximize natural beauty and minimize defects and distracting features… And presto, when they’re all done the results? Beauty! Stunning beauty!! In fact, it’s hard to believe it’s the same person!!! Wow!!! It’d make your head turn in amazement!!
Here’s the awesome good news for people with moral, emotional, social and “spiritual” (even “physical”) defects… God can transform lives through the impact of the message of “the gospel” (i.e what Christ has done to “save” us)! Here’s what the Bible says… “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation – the old has passed away; behold the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17) Now that’s a “makeover!”
Hey, I read about this kind of “makeover” this morning during “coffee with the Lord!” (Made me want to shout for joy! Created faith and hope in my heart about my “defects!”) Here it is…
It’s a passage of Scripture written to some real rascals with significant, ugly defects on the island of Crete… (I mean read Titus 1:5-16 if you have any doubts!) “For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified [made “right with God”) by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life! … so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.” (Titus 3:3–8 ESV)
Now that’s a “makeover” … One incredible Divine “makeover!” Oh, and me? God’s doing it in my life and, believe me, He’s not finished with me yet! He’s making more and more like Jesus, my Savior – believe it or not I’m being “conformed to His image” (check out Romans 8:28-29) And He can do the same thing in your life… a “Divine makeover!” Wow!!!
