I want to be more like Dorothy… the volunteer church custodian! Here’s why…

Singing PraiseHer name? Dorothy Perrine – a wonderful Christian, a gifted Bible teacher, and… believe it or not, the volunteer custodian in the church where I was pastor. I’d enter the church by the side door to study for Sundays message, go up the stairs toward the auditorium, and hear it… her beautiful contralto voice singing sweet praise to God… not under her breath either… full throated worship to her Heavenly Father, her Creator, and her Savior for His awesome character, His abundant grace, His salvation, and His supreme goodness! I’d pause and listen, smile, and thank God for Dorothy!
This wonderful lady came to mind this morning as I read Psalm 95:1-7 during my time of “coffee with the Lord!” Here’s what it says…

“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD!
Let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving!
Let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
The heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
And his hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down!
Let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!
For he is our God!
And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand!”

We need more people like Dorothy… They brighten the day for everyone around them! They encourage and build up fellow Christians! They change the focus from the negative to the positive! Their attitude and the songs it generates sweep others into a spirit of praise and thanksgiving! Most of all they glorify God, their maker, redeemer, provider and friend! I want to be more like Dorothy!
