Inclusiveness… “I will pour my Spirit out on ALL flesh!” (Joel 2:28-32)

I’m rejoicing today in the INCLUSIVENESS of the Gospel and God’s plan and promises for what the Bible calls “the last days” (a time inaugurated with the first coming of Christ and a time that will be consummated with His second coming at the end of time)!

The prophecy and promise regarding “the last days” is first found in Joel 2:28-32:

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit ON ALL FLESH; your SONS and your DAUGHTERS will prophesy, you OLD MENshall dream dreams, and your YOUNG MEN shall see visions! Even on the MALE and FEMALE SERVANTS in those days I will pour out my Spirit… And it shall come to pass that EVERYONE who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

On the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem after the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus the evidence of the fulfillment of this promise was given… In fact, Apostle Peter, in his great extemporaneous sermon of Acts following the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, quoted Joel’s prophecy and declared, “This is what was uttered through the prophet Joel! … Repent and be baptized EVERY ONE OF YOU in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for YOU, and for YOUR CHILDREN, and for ALL WHO ARE FAR OFF, EVERYONE whom the Lord our God calls to Himself!” (From Acts 2:14-41)

Inclusiveness is a popular term today… Many times for the wrong reasons – even non-Biblical reasons. But “the Gospel” established and instituted an “inclusiveness” for all the right reasons! And today I’m rejoicing that my God is “color blind” – that both male and female are included in his plan – that age is no barrier – and that all cultural, educational, and social barriers have been obliterated through the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit!
