Know anyone that fits this description… Arrogant, proud, cocky, overconfident, pushy, rude, bullying, mean, oppressing and taking advantage of others?

Know anyone or any group of people that fit this description… Arrogant, proud, cocky, overconfident, pushy, rude, bullying, mean, oppressing and taking advantage of others… and we could go on, eh?  Anyone come to mind?  Any leader?  Any politician?  Any group of people?  I could give you my list of names right now… Some of them you’d recognize in a moment – they’re in the news every day… But I’ll defer….

There’s a Psalm about them (and the people they’re taking advantage of)…  Psalm 94

“Rise up, O judge of the earth; repay to the proud what they deserve!  O Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult?  They pour out their arrogant words!  All the evildoers boast!  They crush your people, O Lord, and afflict your heritage.  They kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless!  They say, ‘The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob does not perceive!’

“Understand, O dullest of the people!  Fools, when will you be wise?  He who planted the ear, does He not hear?  He who formed the eye, does He not see?

“The Lord will not forsake His people!  He will not abandon His heritage!  Justice will return to the righteous and all the upright in heart will follow it?  If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.  When I thought ‘My foot slips!’ Your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up!  When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul! … The Lord has become my stronghold and my God the Rock of my Refuge!”  (From Psalm 94)

Reminds me of the advice of Apostle Paul… “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine!  I will repay, says the Lord!’” (Romans 12:19)  So as frustrated and disgusted as I am by people like that, I’m going to trust the Lord to bring them down, work justice, and vindicate His people!  Oh, and one more thing… Paul went on to urge us in the same passage, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good!” (vs. 21)  Believe  me, I’m working on it!
