You’ve seen it… Everyone seems to be hanging back. No one will take the lead and act. Then someone says, “Well, OK… I’ll do it! They step out – they take the needed action – and it isn’t long before everyone is participating!”
Authentic, heartfelt praise is like that sometimes. Worship is a little sluggish… Someone needs to take the lead and enter in. Someone deep in their heart says, “I’m going to! I going to offer “the sacrifice of praise! The ice of self-centeredness is melted with the authentic warmth of worship! God is glorified and it isn’t long before everyone is swept into a wonderful worship experience!”
I read about it this morning in the Bible! David began with “I will!” and it wasn’t long before he was saying “Oh magnify the Lord with me! Let us exalt His name together!”
Here’s the whole account of what transpired… He said, “I will bless the Lord at all times! His praise shall continually be in my mouth! My soul will make its boast in the Lord! Let the humble hear it and be glad! O, [com’on! … my words]! Magnify the Lord with me! Let us exalt His name together!” (Psalm 34:1-3)
That’s the way a good worship service begins! Someone breaks the ice! Someone decides to rejoice in the Lord regardless of how they feel… or what they’re going through! The atmosphere changes! Others enter in and are swept into the vortex of worship! God is glorified! And when it is all over we go home edified, encouraged, uplifted, filled with faith and gratitude to God … We’ve worshipped (and perhaps even seen a miracle or two take place!
Hey, I’m going to do it today… I’ll take the lead… I’ll start us off… “I will bless the Lord at all times!” How about you? Gonna just sit there… or join in?
