I just read about it this morning in the Bible… A coming day – “the day of the Lord” – in which everything as we know it now will be destroyed… What to do in light of that reality?
“The day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are don on it will be exposed… the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn.” (2 Peter 3:10, 12 ESV)
Apostle Peter gave us the answer…
“Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought we to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God! … But according to His promise we are waiting for a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:11, 13 ESV)
My response as we face the reality of God’s coming judgment on planet earth? Oh Lord, I want to live the way Peter urged people to live: A holy, godly life – a life lived in sustained, patient, expectancy of the coming of the Lord! I want my life to evidence a patient waiting for what God promises after His judgment upon planet earth – a “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells!” (For an awe-inspiring description of it read Revelation 21:1 – 22:5!)
