On leaving a godly legacy… I want to!!!

I’ve got a list of wonderful individuals – heroes of mine, examples of godliness, models of integrity, exemplary leaders, men and women I deeply admire – that have blessed my life over the years! They’ve shown me how to live, provided counsel when I needed it, and inspired me to follow the Lord with all my heart. Just as sure as I’d start naming them, I know I’d leave someone really significant out! How I admire and appreciate each one of them… I thank the Lord for them!
You probably have your own list…
I thought of those individuals this morning as I read the following description of Hezekiah, king of Judah for 29 years…“Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem… And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD… He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him. For he held fast to the LORD. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments of the LORD… And the LORD was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered.” (from 2 Kings 18:1–8 ESV)
Oh, I’d like to leave a legacy like that! I’d like to have something like that said about my life! I’d like to leave an impact like that on others… Wouldn’t you? The names and faces of some wonderful people like in my life came to mind this morning as I read Hezekiah’s story… Hezekiah wasn’t perfect (I read the account of the rest of his story – the challenges he faced, the issues he had to deal with, his own errors in judgment) but all-in-all he followed the Lord with all His heart! Oh Lord, help me to leave a legacy like that – help me to be an example like that – for my children, my students, and many other friends and colleagues! I prayed that today!O
