Blown away

When you think about what Jesus did for us when He left heaven’s glory to become a human being, identify with us in our situation, and offer Himself as the sacrifice for our sin, it’s really incredible!  Blows me away!  Here is the way the Bible describes it in Philippians 2:6-8…

Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross!”

That incredible act of love – that selfless redemptive act that provided for my salvation, as well as the support and help I depend on every day of my life as a follower of Jesus, was amplified even more this morning for me as I read these words from Hebrews 2:9-18:

“But we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.  In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what He suffered… Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death… For this reason He had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people.  And because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted!”

Wow!  All I can say is, “Jesus, I’m grateful!  Forever grateful!  Thank you!  Thank you!!  Thank you!!!
