As a young family with children I can remember some long road trips from Texas to Montana. We’d leave in the evening and drive all night! Those nights became very long for the driver! Everyone sleeping… long hours of darkness… the boredom of the road… the temptation to doze off… and yet the awareness that for the sake of the family I had to stay awake and alert… When would morning come?! When would we reach our destination?! And then the first signs of day would appear… a faint glow on the horizon… Dawn of a new day!!
I thought of that this morning as I read these words from Proverbs…
“The path of the righteous is like the first light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day! But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness – they do not know over what they stumble.” (Proverbs 5:18-19)
The road to heaven (where there is no night – Revelation 22:5) is a long one – a challenging one and at times a very difficult one. We often feel like we’re traveling through a deep darkness with only the headlights of God’s word to guide us (Psalm 119:105). But then “the signs of the times” point to a brighter day… there is the glow of glory on the horizon! Our spirits quicken! Hope arises in our hearts! The full light of day is almost here and our heavenly home awaits us! Travel on my friend… travel on!!!
