Anyone, besides me, suffering a bit of extreme pre-election politicking fatigue?

Anyone, like me, experiencing a bit of extreme pre-election politicking fatigue? (I mean, we’re over a year out from the general election, and the mud’s already been flying and the character assassination has been going on for months!) To hear, even Christians, talk about the positions of the declared (or “perhaps I’ll run”) candidates it will mean either “Armageddon” or “Paradise” for us all. Don’t get me wrong, I believe some very serious issues are on the agenda! But it seems to me we’re putting a lot of confidence in humankind for solutions to our problems! … (Just between you and me, I think that’s a mistake!)

That conviction was reinforced in my mind this morning as I read Psalm 146… (Me thinks you’ll do yourself a favor to read and internalize its message as we approach this election season!)

“Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. PUT NOT YOUR TRUST IN PRINCES, IN A SON OF MAN, IN WHOM THERE IS NO SALVATION! When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. BUT BLESSED IS HE WHOSE HELP IS THE GOD OF JACOB, WHOSE HOPE IS IN THE LORD HIS GOD, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. 9 The LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. THE LORD WILL REIGN FOREVER, …TO ALL GENERATIONS. PRAISE THE LORD!

So here’s the deal for me… I’m going to do my best to determine the truth about the candidates running for public office and their positions… I’m going to try to throw out what is simply rumor and innuendo. I’m going to make my choices a serious matter of prayer. Then I’m going to vote my conscience and values! But bottom line… I’m NOT going to put my trust in politicians or political parties to be our savior or messiah! I’m going to put my ultimate trust in the Lord!
