From sinner to saint… Is it really possible? Can an individual who has just “scummed life up” become a true “saint” – an authentically righteous, devoted follower of Jesus?
There are people who doubt it. There are others who, believe it or not, could care less… “Live and let live” is their mantra.
I read a wonderful passage today written by Apostle Paul to individuals who lived in a very wicked, immoral city – ancient Corinth – a city whose name had actuality become a byword for immorality…
First of all… It does matter! This is what he said…
“Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NLT)
People like that – people who practice sin – will not get to heaven! In fact the Bible is clear… the only other option is “the other place” – a place of torment.
But Apostle Paul is equally clear about something else in the very next verse… Sinners – people with “scummed up lives” – can change, can be saved, can become authentically righteous!
“Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed! You were made holy! You were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God!” (1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT)
Oh what a wonderful truth! What an awesome reality! God can do it! God can do it for someone you know and love! God may have done it for YOU… and I know you’re forever grateful! (Oh yeah… and it DOES matter!)
