What a contrast… A lifeless idol or the Living God!

What a contrast – a lifeless idol or the Living God!

Idolatry, however, is more than simply a pagan concept. Idolatry involves anything that displaces the Living God as an object of practical worship! Idolatry could consist of any or all of one’s possessions, money, position, power, pleasure, reputation, clothing, personal appearance, even a spouse, ones family or another human being. It doesn’t just have to be a graven, carved, or cast object of worship.

I mean, take your pick… the worship of a lifeless thing (whatever that may be) or even the veneration of a fallible, temporal, perishable being… or the eternal, Living God…

This morning during “Coffee with the Lord” I read these words from Habakkuk…

“What good is an idol carved by man, or a cast image that deceives you? How foolish to trust in your own creation— a god that can’t even talk! What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols, ‘Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say, ‘Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside. But the LORD is in his holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!” (Habakkuk 2:18–20 NLT)

I’m so glad that one day I heard the gospel and “turned away from idols to serve the living and true God!” And as a result, I feel an obligation – yes, even a compulsion – to persuade as many as I can to do the very same thing! There’s no comparison… the Living God is a superior option!
