A place I call “Home”…

Sheeps Head gates of heaven

There’s just something special about the place a person calls “home!” It’s not simply a location thing – it’s a heart thing – all kinds of nostalgia and memories are associated with it! I live in North Texas but deep within I’m still a “Montana boy!” In fact, as weird as it may seem, I’ve been known to stop as I crossed the border into Montana as I returned home, and kiss the ground. You probably feel a lot like that about somewhere you call “home.”

Well, as incredible as it may seem, as a Christian, there is a place I call “home” that I’ve never been to before… and one of these days I’m going take the “long journey” there. It will be a one way trip… I’m never leaving to come back! I’ve got a lot of family and friends already there. (When I walk through to gates to that place prepared for me and all those who love the Lord, I plan to stop and kiss the “ground” … whatever the “ground” is!)

Here’s what the Bible says about it (just read it this morning)…

“These all died in faith [speaking of those who were people of faith], not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth! For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a HOMELAND! If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. BUT AS IT IS, THEY DESIRE A BETTER COUNTRY, THAT IS, A HEAVENLY ONE. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city!” (Hebrews 11:13–16 ESV)

Jesus put it this way just before he left…

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you…and if I go I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also!” (John 14:1–3 ESV)

Gotta tell you… my heart says that place is “home!”
