Babylon today… “Every word of God proves true!” (Psalm 18:30; Proverbs 30:5-6)

Every word of God proves true! (Psalm 18:30; Proverbs 30:5-6) I believe the Bible! I believe the prophetic word of God! Go to Iraq… check it out…

“The word that the Lord spoke concerning Babylon… by Jeremiah, the prophet…

“Because of the wrath of the LORD she shall not be inhabited but shall be an utter desolation; everyone who passes by Babylon shall be appalled, and hiss because of all her wounds. Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the LORD. Raise a shout against her all around; she has surrendered; her bulwarks have fallen; her walls are thrown down. For this is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done.” (From Jeremiah 50:1-16)

I love baptism services and the reality they represent!

I love baptism services and the reality they represent!

I love water baptism services! At the church we are a part of – Trinity Church, Cedar Hill, Texas – we call them “Plunge Parties” (i.e. taking “the plunge” to follow Jesus … “all in” for Him!).
According to Romans 6:1-11, water baptism is more than simply a ceremony! It represents a reality – it is a “baptism into Christ Jesus” – a full and complete identification with His death, burial and resurrection. In a real way it is a faith-identification with Him – in some real way His death became our death to sin, His burial became our burial, and, praise the Lord, His resurrection becomes our resurrection! Here is how Romans 6:4 puts it… “We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life!”
Years ago when I baptized Bill Cypher in the Crow Wing River in Minnesota, this was his testimony… “The pastor told us today this was really a burial service! Today I can see my past – the sin I have committed – just going down that river far, far away. In a moment the pastor is going to put me down into the water of this river and the ‘old Bill’ you knew is going to be buried! Then he’s going to bring me up out of the water and by the grace of God you’re going to see a ‘new Bill’”! I remember it like it was yesterday… What a testimony! What an accurate description of what water baptism represents – and what it truly ought to be!
This morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” I read Galatians 2:20 and thought to myself, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could get people to memorize this verse and get them to quote it and affirm it in a loud and clear voice when they came out of the waters of baptism… “I have been crucified with Christ! It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me! And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me!”
Yes, I think that would be wonderful – and an accurate and powerful affirmation!

I was NOT a person “born into privilege” … and yet I’ve been privileged!

Hey, take it from me, this picture doesn’t describe me! I was NOT a person “born into privilege” (and yet it some ways I was… Godly parents, loving home, life on the farm…) – but not privilege like position, possessions or prestige … just a farm kid from a little town in Western Montana.

This morning during my Bible reading (on my birthday) I was reminded of all of that when I read Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 15.10…

“But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor (i.e. His “grace”) on me! And not without results. For I have worked harder than others… Yet it was not I but God who was working through me by His grace!”

That’s my testimony… God’s grace … and personal application (and even then the grace to apply yourself)! Not a bad combination! I recommend it! How did someone put it? … “Little is much when God is in it!”
