Dealing With the Tough Stuff Life Dishes Out

Want to be able to handle the tough stuff that life dishes out with class? Heed and practice what God’s word teaches! Here’s how the Bible puts it…

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” (Luke 6:46–49 ESV)

I want to be prepared to handle the tough stuff of life, don’t you? Going to do my best to make it my practice to heed and practice what God’s word teaches!!

Sowing and Reaping

Every day I am sowing seeds that WILL bear fruit… good or bad! “Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows they will also reap! The one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit… We will reap!” (Galatians 6:7-8 CSB)

A Commitment to Integrity

Leadership is both challenging and demanding! And there is a sense in which all of us in some way are leaders… We’re followers to be sure – but we also lead… We lead someone, somewhere, sometime, in some way!

GODLY LEADERSHIP REQUIRES COMMITMENT – It’s demanding! My Bible reading this morning was Psalm 101 which articulates the commitments of King David – the prototypal leader of God’s people Israel/Judah. In fact, I titled the Psalm, “A VOW OF INTEGRITY MADE BY A GODLY LEADER.”

Here’s a taste of the Psalm (pay particular attention to the “I WILL’s” of David):

I WILL sing of steadfast love and justice!

To you, O Lord, I WILL make music!

I WILLponder the way that is blameless!

I WILL walk with integrity of heart within my house!

I WILL not set before my eyes anything that is worthless!

I hate the work of those who fall away; it WILLnot cling to me!

A perverse heart WILL be far from me!

I WILL know nothing of evil!

Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I WILL not endure!

I WILL look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me!

The person who walks in the way that is blameless I WILL allow to minister to me!”

(Adapted from Psalm 101:1–6 ESV)

I’ve got to tell you by the time I finished reading and reflecting on Psalm 101 I found myself crying out to God… “I WANT TO BE A LEADER LIKE THAT! HELP ME LORD!” How about you – are you willing to join me in making this your commitment?
