Luke 11:1-13… With Christ in “the School of Prayer”

Teach us to pray

This morning during my time of “coffee with the Lord” I feel like I’ve been “with Christ in the School of Prayer!” Here’s a few thoughts from my time with Him today taken from Luke 11:1-13. (I encourage you to read that passage for yourself in your Bible today!)

Can you imagine being one of Jesus’ followers and watching and hearing Him pray? It would be awesome! Incredibly impressive!

He didn’t leave us to flounder in our praying – frustrated that we might not be doing it correctly or effectively! In fact, I want to be sure to use “the prayer Jesus taught His disciples to pray” as the pattern for my praying!

I have a list of things – good things, God-pleasing things – I’ve been praying for and about! I been praying for them often – I’ve been praying for them daily… based upon this “word of encouragement” from the Lord I WILL NOT STOP! I WILL KEEP ON ASKING, SEEKING, KNOCKING until I receive what I’ve been praying for! It is HIS WORD that encourages me – yes, even challenges me – to keep on doing that!

As a human father, I’ve always tried to give “good gifts” to my children – sometimes I’ve succeeded, other times I’m afraid I’ve failed! But our Heavenly Father is a “good, good, Father” – We can bring our requests to Him with confidence! He knows what is best for us! He has promised to give “good gifts” (and the Holy Spirit is one of “His BEST gifts!) to His children!

Don’t know about you, but I’m going to keep praying… to my Heavenly Father in Jesus’ name!

It’s “the Lord’s Day” … Father’s Day… and I’m celebrating today with fellow Christians!

Heavenly Father's Day (2)Celebrating a special day of sorts… on several levels:  First of all, celebrating the “Lord’s Day” with fellow Christians (a great way to begin a week!), then Father’s Day (and celebrating a wonderful “Heavenly Father”), then the beginning of Summer).  Because of COVID-19 it’s been awhile since many Christians have been able to meet together.  Some churches have started meeting a few weeks ago, but for others today may be the first real opportunity to “meet together” with fellow Christians at some level!

Today, my Bible reading, celebrated the privilege of “meeting together” – Psalm 111!  Just let me say; It’s a wonderful passage in celebration of that privilege!  Sharon and I are in San Diego this weekend and today marks the beginning of that privilege here on a limited level for many people.  I’m going to enjoy it with our family!

Here’s some of what Psalm 111 says in the New Living Translation…

“Praise the Lord!

“I WILL THANK THE LORD WITH ALL MY HEART AS I MEET WITH HIS GODLY PEOPLE!

“How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in Him should ponder them.  Everything He does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails.  He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our Lord!  All he does is just and good! … What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has!

“Praise him forever!”  (From Psalm 111)

So if you have the privilege of meeting with fellow Christians today for worship… My advice?  Be grateful!  Praise the Lord!!  Celebrate!!!  (But also… be careful 😉)

A warning: “Popping off” in the heat of frustration and anger

Here’s an issue we all need to watch out for I think… “At Meribah they angered the Lord, causing Moses serious trouble. They made Moses angry, and he spoke foolishly.” (From Psalm 106:32-33 NLT) Don’t “pop off” impulsively in the heat of your angry frustration! Help us, O Lord to control our emotions and not say things we later regret and bring sad consequences!!!
