Thinking about a special place – a sacred place – a place where the presence and power of God can be sensed and responded to. A place that is quiet enough to hear Him whisper. A place where He can make Himself real and I can be vulnerable.
Sometimes the place is solitary – just me and Him. At other times the powerful sense of His presence is felt among other believers (Matthew 18:20). I’ve been powerfully aware of His presence enjoying nature’s grandeur – but also in the stress of an emergency. During prayer and praise – but also simply walking down a street. In a chair early in the morning with my Bible – but also in a house of worship with other Christians.
His presence… It’s powerful, it’s profound, and in this crazy world we live in it’s really all I need! How about you?
All of this flooded my mind as I read the following words this morning during my daily time of “coffee with the Lord” …
“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord;
My heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,
At Your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house, ever singing Your praise!
“For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!”
(From Psalm 84 ESV)
