Evil Ultimately Defeated!

December 28, 2023 12:42 am

Evil is rampant in our world today! You see it in our cities, on our streets (and now even in the countryside and small villages). It rears its ugly head in local, state and national government – international agencies are infected with evil. Nations abroad are led by violent leaders filled with hatred who spread their evil virus in the general population. This is not simply a passive, latent of evil either … It is aggressive and active – an evil that promotes and advocates evil and violence!

The Bible predicts justice and judgment upon the roots of this evil! I read the account of this morning in the Bible… It should bring comfort and relief to every righteous heart…

“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords… And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.” (Revelation 19:11–21 ESV)

And evil has its final judgment in Revelation 20 (especially vss. 7-10)… I encourage you to read it there… I will tomorrow in my Bible reading

Know this… The fact that ultimate justice and judgment will in the end come upon evil, frees us up to express God’s redemptive love in our world today! What a great opportunity, don’t you think? Here’s how Romans 12 14-21 puts it…

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them… Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY, SAYS THE LORD.’ On the contrary, ‘if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.’ DO NOT BE OVERCOME BY EVIL, BUT OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD.
