No one likes a braggart … it’s all about them. Every conversation regardless of the subject in a few minutes becomes about them. In every issue that is discussed, the right point of view is inevitably theirs. They’re consumed with their stuff, their achievements, their family, their adventures and experiences … even their challenges, difficulties and enemies. A particular braggart comes to mind… they aren’t even aware they do it – everyone else is though. Wish I could tell ‘em that’s why they don’t have many close friends, why some people avoid them, and why “depth” conversations with others seem to escape them.
Hey, let’s face it – spiritual healthy people get this fixed! Their whole orientation to life changes… It’s about the Lord first, then others… then… them.
Apostle Paul put it this way… “Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the ‘world’ is crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Galatians 6:14) For Paul it was no longer about him… it was about Jesus – His will, His way, His cause!
Even in the Old Testament I saw this theme expressed… “I will bless THE LORD at all times! HIS PRAISE shall continually be in my mouth! My soul will MAKE ITS BOAST IN THE LORD! The humble will hear and be glad. OH, MAGNIFIY THE LORD WITH ME and LET US EXALT HIS NAME together!” (Psalm 34.1-3)
