Observing a man or woman of faith move through life is an inspiring and uplifting thing to see! So positive! Infectiously optimistic! Hearing them talk about what life may bring their way just exudes confidence in God. That is what leads me to believe that the very essence of faith is confidence in God!
I read a well-known passage this morning that illustrates my point perfectly… Psalm 91. The psalmist is a person of deep faith and confidence in God! Its affirmations do not mean that he has never had a problem or difficulty – they simply assert rock-solid confidence in God… (I’ll quote some excerpts from it…)
“I will say to the Lord, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust!’ He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence! He will cover you with His pinions and under His wings you will find refuge! His faithfulness will be your shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night or the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand but it will not come near you. (i.e. you’ll experience and know the Lord’s protection)” … and there is more… read it!
And then here is the even more powerful part… After the psalmist has spoken out of his confidence and faith in God, GOD SPEAKS – GOD RESPONDS!!! “Because he (or she) holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him (or her)! I will protect them, because they know my Name. When they call upon me, I will answer them! I will be with them in trouble! I will rescue and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them and show them my salvation!”
Wonderful! So uplifting! Hey, it pays to go through life trusting the Lord!
